Welcome to the blog for The Sanction Chronicles, a YA paranormal series.

Today is the first day of the Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop. This Hop is co-hosted by I Am A Reader, not a Writer and by I Read Banned Books. These ladies have gotten together almost 300 blog to participate in this hop to celebrate Banned Books Week. I think that most of us enjoy our freedom to read what we want, uncensored by anyone (except maybe parents if you are young :) ). It’s important to celebrate the fact that we don’t live in a country where books are censored.

If you are curious and are interested in looking at a list of books that have been banned, click HERE.

So, on to the giveaway!  We are giving away two copies of Welcome to Sanction Year One, Book One.  This is an e-book so the giveaway is open to international entries as well as Canada and the US!!

The Sanction Chronicles YA Series on KickstarterWelcome to Sanction, the 3rd largest all paranormal town in the USA and Wind Haven High School accepting students from the werewolf, witch, and vampire community.

Hi There!

Audrey here with your latest Study Skill Tip!

  • Do you have trouble getting your homework done?
  • Do you fall asleep before you homework is finished?

Today we are going to talk about WHERE you study.

Is it cozy?  Is it well lit?  Does the dog curl up beside you when you study?

All of these things are important, but what is most important is the lack of distraction.  The brain is an interesting organ.  As much as we think we can multi-task.  We can’t.  If we do one activity really well, we do two activities at roughly half that ability.  It’s true…..check the studies :)   They are right here in the library!

The ideal study space is comfy (but not too comfy like a bed) and well lit (makes it easier on your eyes).  You should have a surface large enough to hold all the things you need to study – textbook, binder, calculator, paper, etc.  It should also be as free from distraction as we can make it.  Can the family dog cuddle with you…..yes along as he doesn’t bounce around.  You also need to turn your cell phone off, and shut down email, MSN chat, Yahoo chat, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and any other social media that you may like to use.  If you read my post last week, it suggested spending 10 minutes every hour taking a break.  Doing something different.  Use that time to check your e-mail, see what’s happening on Facebook or Twitter.  You’ll find you are much more productive if you concentrate on one thing at a time.

Happy studying!  Come back next week to see what we discuss next!

Audrey Here!

School has now started!  Tests are being planned :(

In my role as librarian I’m often asked to help with study skills.  Check back here on a regular basis to catch my pearls of wisdom.

Today’s Study Skill – block out study time and breaks.

Believe it or not, your brain can only function well, when you treat it well.  Part of this good treatment is to give it a break.  How often do you need a break – well, that’s an individual thing.  Often it is suggested to take a 10 minute break every hour, but you might study better if you take 5 minutes every half hour.

During this break allow your brain to shut down.  Do something completely different than you were doing.  Go for a short walk, phone a friend for a short chat, fix a snack, clean your room (kidding).  You will feel relaxed and ready to take on a new project when you sit down to study again.

Come back next week for more pearls of wisdom!  Happy studying :)

What Were You Wearing?

Taken from the 3 Wicked Witches Blog – Charity BradfordThe Hawthorne Academy of Witchcraft burned to the ground and every witch in Sanction New Hampshire was there. This might be the biggest event of the year, so what did you wear? I know, I know this is not something we all prepared for. Still you wore it out of your house so I get to comment on the fashion display, good or bad.

Good: Fuzzy slippers. I’m always a fan. You lovely witches gave me a selection from zebras to steam engines. Much appreciated.

Bad:  Animal prints, in unnatural color combinations. A pink leopard spotted silk robe? Really Sera?

Good:  All of the guys took the time to cover their boxer shorts.

Bad:   ALL of the HOT guys took the time to cover their boxers. You all think Devon is a boxers guy? I hope so, briefs are not my preferred look to daydream about him wearing.

Good: Everyone was safe and has recovered quickly, casts and bandages are a bad fashion move. Thank you for saving us from future eye assault handsome firefighters.

Bad:   Firefighters wear too many layers. They are buff and heroic and I could not get a good look at any of them through the smoke.

That just leaves us with the: Best and Worst Dressed Awards

Best Worst
Sheriff Rhys Gard – A man in uniform, he looked very official. Yummy. Principal West – Black with smoke nighty no-no. That thing is due for a trip to the trash.
Faith Bradford – Looked good, but made us late to the scene while she could have skipped the makeup. Sera – Pink Animals are rare, so stop forcing them to hide with embarrassing usage of their camouflage.
Devon looked cool and confident next to his element Anchovy, his PJ’s had flames on them. Poor taste, very poor taste.
Feel free to disagree, I look forward to hearing what readers think is going to be the future of Pajama Fashion.

WHO Started the HAW Fire

Available on the Paranormal Online Access Network

Okay Readers,
The big news comes close to home this week, the Hawthorne Academy of Witchcraft  fire.
Rumor is that the place went up and burned almost to the ground in less than thirty minutes. No way is that natural. There had to be magical forces pushing the flames on. If there was no outside interference the firefighters or the fire witches working to put the blaze out would have been successful.

There has to be more going on than the surface evidence hints at. There are suspects being questioned, but are they strong enough to cause this damage. Hope Bradford is an Air witch, no way she has enough power to influence another element and take out the school.

In Sanction the list of people who want to get a little revenge on the witch community covers everyone. This job requires a skill. Who is able to master fire in town BUT the witches?
Inside job is what the news said, but there is another option.

ELEMENTALS – I do not believe they are as extinct as we all want to believe. Controlling and element is a dangerous gift. The witches said something like that three hundred years ago when they exterminated every Elemental they could find.

I think witches are just jealous since they only influence elements not control them. Jealousy Green is not a good color.

Water, Air, Fire, and Earth have not disappeared so I find it hard to believe that every elemental has. Should we be watching every time we light a match or turn on the water?

Hawthorne Academy, September 3, 2011

Bill Jensen – Authorities are investigating a large fire that damaged the Hawthorne Academy of Witchcraft (HAW) late September 1, 2011.

Town Sheriff Rhys Gard arrived shortly after an emergency call at 11:45 P.M. from nearby Grove resident and witch Hope Bradford, 15. First on the scene, Ms. Bradford pulled HAW Principal West to safety.

Rhys Gard said, “No one was seriously hurt as a result of the fire.”  Ninety percent of the school however was damaged. The school will have to be closed until further notice.

No decision has been reached on how this will effect students returning this Fall to the Hawthorne Academy of Witchcraft.

The Witches Council says, “This is a serious situation and we’re making every effort to determine the cause of the fire. The impact on the students is deeper than the loss of a building and we’ll announce plans for them soon.”

So far there is not enough information on how the fire started. Speculation in the community has been running large.

Talking About Fashion with Faith Hope and Charity

The three sisters share their take on preparing for the school year.

Faith: Readers need to know that wearing high cut jeans is a fashion crime and I am not afraid to tell them. If you are an offender be prepared to be mocked!

Hope: Yeah please do us all a favor and burn those babies! Another faux pas for me is chipped nail polish! What is up with that? Are you out of nail polish remover or what? If you’re going to wear nail polish, keep it on, or take it off people.

Charity: Maybe we should all just wear skirts. That would solve the problem right? I like skirts anyway. And we can not use nail polish. Have you ever tried a highlighter? They work and you always have them in your backpack.

Faith: People who use highlighters on their nails should also be ready for mockery.

Charity: You’re just jealous my nails are sunny and pretty.

Faith: Oh really…

Hope: Anyways, what about hair?? The blunt bang is back! I’m not sure what I think about this trend returning. Personally I go for long bohemian curls swept back in a side braid.

Charity: It is all about color not style! Hair bands, colored extensions, and feathers!

Faith: If you have a bird on your head other birds might come and make friends. Hair is not meant to be a nest Charity.

Hope: I actually like feathers, they are an inexpensive and fun addition. What I don’t like is tinsel. Tinsel is for Christmas trees, not hair. next thing you know we’ll see Christmas lights!

Charity: Oh tinsel! Where can I get that?

Faith: I don’t care where you get it the minute it enters the house it is in the trash! And anyone else who uses it can expect to be trashed on the 3sisters twitter, facebook and Blog! This is your last warning, the new year is here and dress carefully for back to school. Sanction may be off the maps, but that is no excuse to be lazy when picking out your wardrobe.

Hope: For sure Faith! Students and citizens of Sanction BEWARE!

Charity: Do the fashion Police really exist? I never believed it, but I guess it is possible. Which would you rather be in trouble with, them or the Hell Hounds? At least the HH just kill you and there is no need to live in shame for poor fashion choices.

Faith: Shut up Charity.

September 4th, Sunday

As if life in Sanction isn’t weird enough!

I was just getting –sorta – used to living here.  I was all ready for school.

No friends – check.

Bored on weekends – check.

Disgusting caf food – check.

Bitchy witches talking behind my back – all ready for that and then some.

So yes, it sucks being the only voodoo witch in town, much less the only voodoo priestess in town. Well…..priestess-in-training…. :)

I don’t hate it so much that I wanted Hawthorne Academy to burn to the ground.  The two days later and the town still smells like burnt sage and singed tarot cards.  I can’t even breathe outside.

They think a student had something to do with it.  Doubt it. The witches here are all about their “better than you “ school. :P

I don’t know.  I have to go to Windhaven High now?  At least I knew what to expect, who to avoid, what NOT to wear at Hawthorne.  Maybe this’ll be better.

It will put all of the witches on the new-kid list. That will be good :)

Even up the playing ground.  They’ll be so busy trying to find their way around they won’t have time to give me crap.  Hhmmmm I like that…..

But hey, Cole will be there.  I get see his luscious self everyday.  I might even get a class or two with him. That will be better. No – that’ll be sweet. :)

Doesn’t mean it will be any easier.

p.s. just had an email from my dear sweet brother, Daniel.  Bad storm hitting Louisiana.  Now I have to worry about my brother too!  What cosmic crap is this? I have to leave my beloved New Orleans after making it through Katrina .   Just now it’s starting to come back to life.  I have to leave my brother behind just because he’s “normal” as my jerky of a “normal” father says. Now this? Fire, floods — hurricanes.  If I get stuck having to take algebra again this year — Merde!  I’ll just be here throwing myself a pity party and everyone’s invited.

I know you’ve been thinking about them ~ Mom’s Famous Oatmeal Macaroons

Fall represents many things, but most typical  in Sanction is cooler weather, back to school and back to baking.  I love everything about these cookies, from the smells of them baking in the oven while the twins steal dough-balls to devour before they even reach a cookie sheet! As the title indicates, this recipe was my adopted Mother’s, and her Mother’s recipe before her. Come into the Undergrounds and get some or bake at home,  enjoy…

Sanction New Hampshire

September 1, 2011

Wow, he’s hot, too hot.

Hope’s skin was uncomfortably warm, the heat getting worse every minute. She smelled smoke, or was that part of the dream? He’s smoking hot, that’s it. Hope settled back to admire his dark hair and bright eyes. At least I dreamed up someone worth looking at.

She sighed. Life in Sanction was good. Not was, is—is good. Missing Dream Guy, AKA DG, did not make the rest of her life lonely. These dreams didn’t last. Now he was here, but for how long? She wanted to enjoy the time, but it was just so damn hot!

His voice broke into her thoughts. “Hope. Hope. You need to wake up.”

Like hell I do. Just minutes after getting here he wants me to leave? No way.

She was staying asleep and right here. He was free to do whatever he wanted.

“Hope, please.”The urgency in his voice pulled at her, but she refused. She wasn’t letting go of the dream.

“You need to wake up now!”

He was giving her orders? This is silly. I created DG, I don’t have to listen to him. Made up people are not allowed to give orders.

“I’m not joking Hope.”

Hello Everyone,

We are so lucky that the talented man who made the Wind Haven High School Logo make our cover. So… Here… It… Is!

Audrey here!  I’m the Librarian in the Sanction Library and I love books!

It will be my job to give away one book every Friday.  I’ve got the first few titles for giveaways chosen, but if you have a book that you would like to win, please put it in the comments and I’ll hunt through the library shelves to see if I can find it.

We will be giving away one of my favorites for this first week:

Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey

On Solange’s sixteenth birthday, she is going to wake up dead. As if that’s not bad enough, she also has to outwit her seven overprotective older brothers, avoid the politics involved with being the only daughter born to an ancient vampire dynasty, and elude Kieran Black—agent of an anti-vampire league who is searching for his father’s killer and is intent on staking Solange and her entire family. Luckily she has her own secret weapon—her human best friend Lucy. Lucy is willing to defend Solange’s right to a normal life, whether she’s being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange’s eternal life—Lucy and Solange’s brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black — in a dual romance that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover’s heart.

Let’s chat a bit about the rules!  You know, Librarians always have rules…….

Good luck and may the luckiest fan win!  Now, go do your homework :)

I’m a simple kinda guy. I like a burger. Meat, Meat and Cheese, Meat and Onions. These are things that I can get excited about. When I heard Best Burger in LA talk going around about Umami Burger it went on the MUST list for a WCWR Review.

So Sunday night I drove to the Valli Location which really isn’t a cute way of telling me it is in the VALLEY. Cause the Valley – San Fernando Valley that is – takes up an enormously large area. Real location? Studio City. So after finding the hidden local I set out and got excited.

The wait was not bad though it was a Sunday night so I am not surprised. I did end up with a seat overlooking the sidewalk and street so exhaust with your burger was on the menu. Here we get to the good part and the bad part.

SO the doors open to Sanction tomorrow.

Terry Kate

Hello Readers -

I can not believe it! As of September 1 we are up and going full speed her at Sanction and that is SOOOO in the next few days! I am blown away. And it might not shock anyone who knows me – a BIT behind.

Well there is a lot to do people!

SO today is Sanction Sunday for me. All day we are working and getting things ready for all of you lovely readers. Because lets face it – the action is about to start in our town so if we are going to keep up in real time we better be ready to move…

Last chance for authors readers and bloggers to get an insider look and become involved with Sanction. We have a few openings for some dedicated people.

Terry Kate

For a week now Oscar had been there, in that same spot of grass when I go down to meditate next to the river. I am tired of not being able to do yoga. At least when he was hiding in the bushes I could ignore him and do my usual work out, now that he sits there watching me downward dog no longer seems appropriate.

Today he was there when I arrived and stayed over two hours with me. Does he really have nothing better to do? It has to be boring, but he stays and I’m not really sure why.

More than a week till school starts. Football has to be practicing soon and Oscar will be gone. Not that I care or anything.

Went down by the stream again and saw Oscar. He was in wolf form, but I knew it was him. Grey fur with a black star like shape across his back. Not totally sure when he started coming around. I caught site of him in the woods a dozen times before he showed himself,

So far he hasn’t dared to cross the river onto the Grove. Guess they train wolves to know better than to walk onto witch lands. I doubt he will get closer. Last wolf caught over here by Demitri and his patrol went home shaved bald like a poor little sheep.

Male witches might not be able to channel magic, but they ALWAYS have spells of some kind with them. Oscar would look like a sorry puppy without all that fur.

Summer in Sanction

Part 2: by Terry Kate

See part 1 HERE.

The smell of the lake made his mouth dry up and he craved a drink. Trying not to pant like a dog in heat, he peered over the edge and saw eyes less than a foot away, staring right at him.

“Shi-” He didn’t even get the word out before shhh sounded all around him. The dark eyes didn’t belong to a creature worthy of startling a werewolf. Kyle bared his teeth at the stupid beast. Dumb thing didn’t even run.

“I hate rabbits.” He muttered the words softly, but everyone of them had superhuman hearing.

“Our big bad leader got scared by a bunny.” Eric whispered. Idiot probably felt safe since Matt and Simon separated them.

“Shut up, you want to get us caught?” Simon’s voice rose and another round of Shhhh started up.

They crept forward making enough noise to disturb another night creature nearby. Kyle’s muscles locked as an owl hooted. Crap, I need to relax. We are way off course. Who would think to look up here?

“What are you going to do if we run into one of the witch guards?”

Kyle sighed, he didn’t want to go into details or make the young wolf more nervous. “We won’t.”

Matt didn’t let it go. “What if one of the other teams finds us?”

Simon lost his patience snapping at full volume. “Dude, shut up already.” Kyle clapped a hand over the other wolf’s mouth before he could say more.

With any luck they would not… “Did you hear that?”

The voice sounded nearby and they all froze, holding their breath.

Stay or run. Those were the options and he was the leader of their team. The choice was his and he wasn’t sure which to signal to the others as the plan. A female giggle filled the air giving him hope.

Maybe that was not a guard, or maybe he was distracted. There was no way for Kyle to be sure, but they were so close now he could smell it. Literally his nose even in human form was picking up scents.

They were staying and they were going to win. He looked over and the other guys looked just as determined.

All this to see a ritual with naked witches? Totally worth it.

“Hey, there they are!” Feet pounded on the ground and kept coming, then passed without pausing.

Another team? Didn’t matter. Opportunity was knocking and they were going. Cries sounded in the forest while Kyle lead his team in the opposite direction.

Distantly they heard shouts that had Matt visibly cringing.

“Get off. I will not let you. No, don’t even think about it. I will tear out your heart and eat it.”

A buzzing noise started that Kyle knew all too well. Being new to town, the youngest one asked the question he did not want to answer. “What is that? Are they hurting him?”

Eric snickered. “Oh it will hurt.”

Matt started to turn back, but Simon caught his arm. “We need to go help them.”

Simon and Eric exchanged a look but the asses kept quiet.

“Fine.” Being the leader was not a fun job. “It is a buzzer, they are going to shav-” He didn’t need to explain further when a shaved wolf went running past, skin exposed from the neck down to the end of his tail.

“Holy crap!” Kyle silently agreed.

Voices sounded, laughing and congratulating each other on the catch. They were close and after seeing one of their pack bald Matt made a run for it. He was not careful to keep the noise down and the chase was on.

Kyle cursed the kid as a branch hit him in the face. His lungs worked, pumping oxygen into his blood and with every heart beat he wanted to shift, to really run. Not an option for him unless he wanted to disqualify his team.

Need to loose the witches. Where?

Matt dropped out of sight and he had his answer. Over the cliff.

1: No way! Kyle veered to the right and kept running.

2: That’s it! Kyle was done. He turned to confront whoever was in the woods hunting wolves.

3: He couldn’t see anything below, but one for all and all for one.

That’s the choices this week!  Pick number 1, 2 or 3 and then come back to find out where the story will go from here!
